Ronin Goju Karate Members Area (BETA)

Welcome to the Ronin Goju Karate members area. This is a members only area accessible via a password that will be changed on a regular basis. The below areas have been created to show the main requirements for each grade, as well as some additional pages focusing on things such as throws, locks, holds or groundwork.

Please select the area associated WITH YOUR NEXT BELT in order to access the content required to help you in the next grading. Please consider that each belt grading includes everything relevant for each prior belt. As much as possible is written in English rather than Japanese.

Bear in mind this is a work in progress and content will be added as and when it’s available.

  • Acceptable discipline and commitment levels
  • Basic short forward and long forward stance as well as sumo stance
  • Closed hand blocks and strikes
  • Front kicks
  • Movement in short stance while blocking and striking
  • Acceptable discipline and commitment levels (min 3 months since previous belt)
  • Improved stances
  • Additional closed handed strikes and elbows
  • Improved front kicks and basic round kicks
  • Movement in long stance while blocking and striking. Movement in short stance while kicking.
  • Basic pad drills
  • Use of strike shield for front kicks
  • The first six moves of Gekasai Dai Ichi
  • Acceptable discipline and commitment levels (min 3 months since previous belt)
  • All closed handed strikes and blocks. Basic open handed blocks.
  • Good long and short forward stance. Basic Pidgeon toe
  • Good front kicks and round kicks as well as basic side kicks
  • Movement in long stance with multiple blocks and strikes including kicks.
  • Movement in Pidgeon toe while blocking
  • Additional basic pad drills
  • Use of strike shield for round kicks
  • Basic Gekasai Dai Ichi
  • Basic bunkai of Gekasai Dai Ichi
  • Acceptable discipline and commitment levels (min 3 months since previous belt)
  • All closed handed strikes and blocks. Improved open handed blocks.
  • Practical strikes (jabs, hooks and uppercuts)
  • Good Pidgeon toe and basic Cat stance.
  • Improved side kicks and basic back kicks
  • Movement between stances while striking and blocking.
  • Improved pad drills including kicks
  • Improved power generation on strike shields (kicks)
  • Improved Gekasai Dai Ichi and a basic Gekasai Dai Ni
  • Improved Bunkai for Gekasai Dai Ichi and Basic Bunkai for Gerkasai Dai Ni
